Against the nominal AVO specification for 100% emission of :- Ia =100 mA; gm = 11.0mA/V @ Va = 250V; Vg = -15V Obtained results were:- y10: Ia = 72 mA; gm = 9.0 mA/V Y24: Ia = 70 mA; gm = 9.0 mA/V As you can see, these results are slightly lower than nominal but should give superlative performance in Push-Pull output applications as the matching of both gm and Ia is superb.

BRIMAR CV4003 MILITARY 12AU7 ECC82 MATCHED PAIR FROM 1974

On offer we have a beautiful matched pair of white print Brimar CV4003, these are military specification 12AU7/ ECC82. Both devices carry a military cartouche that indicate a 1974 manufacture date. Both devices present with superb matching both within the envelope and inter device. These devices have tested on our AVO VCM163 valve tester as having nominal specification emission with very close matching for each triode section within the envelope.

MULLARD OLD SHIELD WHITE PRINT ECC83 MATCHED PAIR

On offer today we have a matched pair of Mullard old shield white print ECC83 . Using our AVO VCM163 for conditions of or Va = 250 V Vg = -2.0V against a nominal specification of anode current Ia = 1.2 mA and mutual conductance gm = 1.6 mA/V, the following results were obtained:- Valve C1, A1 Ia = 1.0 mA gm = 1.4 mA/V Valve C1, A2 Ia = 1.0 mA gm = 1.5 mA/V Valve C2, A1 Ia = 1.0 mA gm = 1.4 mA/V Valve C2, A2 Ia = 1.0 mA gm = 1.3 mA/V As you can appreciate this represents excellent matching of each triode section within each envelope and superb inter valve matching such that this represents and excellent matched pair.

OSRAM FAT BOY KT66 VT75 WARTIME ISSUE GREY GLASS

The British Marconi-Osram GEC Valve Company of England introduced in 1938 the legendary KT66, K.T standing for kinkless tetrode. This designation was given as when the performance of the valve is measured from it's output curve it was found to be linear - hence it's great sound. The KT66s superlative sonic performance found audio fame in the Q.U.A.D II amplifier in the field of hi-fi and in 1965 Jim Marshall used the KT66 in the JTM 45 guitar amp to power those famous biting solo's to a crescendo in Eric Clapton's band!! Hence the KT66 joined the rock and roll valve legend in the first position where it has been ever since. The performance of the MOV originals is all due to the heavy grade glass and rigid mica spacers with stiff grid support specified by MOV engineers to eliminate microphonics and provide longevity of performance. Many replicas of this valve have been made over the years, mainly in China but these replicas don't 'cut the mustard' in comparison to the original GEC MOV devices in terms of sound, longevity and visual aesthetics. The problem is not just locating vintage devices but getting good ones which have been fully tested using an AVO VCM to determine stability, microphonics, cathode heater insulation hot & cold, internal shorts, anode current and mutual conductance. For this you need expertise and the requisite Valve Characteristic Meter - hard to find and jealously coveted these days - and so they should be as they cost the price of an average semi back in the 1950's The device offered here today is AVO VCM163 tested and as good as you can get. Its a GREY glass, black low loss micanol based unit from wartime production. The base is tight to the envelope with no sign of re-fixing. The markings on the front are in etched cartouche and show KT66 Osram and the rear of the envelope carries a perfect Osram ellipsoid yellow and blue decal. Tested using an Avo specification for 100% emission of anode current, Ia =63 mA; mutual conductance gm = 6.3 mA/V @ At Va = 250V Vg = -15V the results obtained were:- Ia = 95 mA. gm = 8.0 mA/V.

MULLARD CV181 MIL SPEC ECC32 BROWN BASE 1954 MANUFACTURE

This EX EQUIPMENT TESTED example carries only a slightly smudged military cartouche in white print and shows a production date of March 1954. The base is brown low loss micanol and is tightly secured to the glass envelope All pins are bright and corrosion free. This device is used, ex equipment but has been tested using my AVO VCM 163 valve tester and as you can see from the test data presented below, it gives data for anode current, Ia and mutual conductance gm that is within nominal Mullard 100% emission spec:- At Va = 250V Vg = -4.6V Section 1: Ia = 6.0 mA; gm = 1.7 mA/V Section 2: Ia = 7.0 mA; gm = 2.0 mA/V The specification for a new/100% emission valve is: Ia =6.0mA; gm = 2.3mA/V As you can see, these results show a strong device with extremely good matching of each triode section within each valve envelope.
